Airtel’s first attempt to launch a game named ‘Getris’ that too on all three platforms- mobile, Internet and direct to home (DTH).Getris is a triple-play arcade puzzle game specially developed for the age group of 14-18. The game is based on the popular game Tetris. Plying games on DTH is a new trend. Airtel customers can now play the game on any one of the three services and the subscribers can seamlessly continue their experience on the remaining two platforms using a unique code on each occasion.

Consumers seem to be finding Deutsche Telecom’s UK arm T-Mobile an attractive proposition once again, ahead of its expected merger with Orange. This changing trend was revealed by the record subscriber growth shown by the mobile operator in the month of September this year. About 100,000 new connections were taken up, according to figures released by the company. Richard Moat, CEO of T-Mobile UK, confirmed the increase in the company’s subscriber base and added that the company’s immensely popular new offer “Free Texts for Life” had a significant role to play in this dramatic change of fortunes.

Dan Hesse’s turnaround at Sprint Nextel is still far from finished. The company lost 545,000 net wireless subscribers during Q3 — including 135,000 important “retail” subscribers — and posted a $478 million net loss. And now, on the company’s earnings call, Hesse speaks of trying to find growth in the prepaid mobile market, which is historically a worse business to be in than “postpaid” service, where subscribers sign long-term contracts and pay more for service.

A subsidiary of telecom giant Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Vinaphone, launched its third generation (3G) mobile network, the first of its kind in Vietnam, on Monday. Vinaphone will provide six new services – mobile internet, mobile broadband, video call, mobile camera, mobile TV and a 3G portal. The operator said that the same basic charges will apply for 3G customers as are used for 2G services.

I started playing World of Warcraft about 10 months ago as I was intrigued by the amount of media coverage this game has. You have probably heard the story about a guy who played the game day and night without any sleep and then finally collapsed! Any game that has this level of addictiveness is worth checking out and I am glad I did as the game is awesome!The only thing about World of Warcraft that really gets me is how difficult the game is, although I suppose this is where the fun lies as well.

Boingo Wireless has announced that it’s Wi-Fi hotspot service has been launched for Blackberry . The service will allow Blackberry owners to automatically locate and connect to the best Wi-Fi service in their area. How does Boingo work? Late last June Boingo secured the patent for its Wi-Fi service, which is basically a constantly updating network of Wi-Fi hotspots. This service is aimed at people who want to use data services on their phones, but don’t want to pay operator data rates.

Associated Newspapers has just announced that the London Lite will shortly be closing. This has surely been inevitable since the Evening Standard went free a week or so ago. Clearly as well the journalists mentioned in the The Guardian’s report , there are also an awful lot of part-time distributors losing their jobs, as well associated roles. I have mixed feelings on this, as I think the paper was absolutely dreadful and an utter waste of space.

Nokia might be looking at its smartphone share in the US being eaten up like nobody’s business no thanks to its rivals from a variety of manufacturers who have come up with a much cleaner user interface and seamless ease-of-use. Still, that doesn’t mean this cellphone manufacturing giant is going to give up that easily elsewhere in the world. The Finnish company aims to strengthen its grip in the China market by announcing its first device for TD-SCDMA – China’s domestic 3G standard, simply known as the Nokia 6788.

Jim Cramer followed up on his recent recommendation to buy Deckers Outdoor Corporation (DECK) and sell Under Armour Inc. (UA) , even though both stocks’ charts looked bullish. Both companies reported earnings and the results are in. Cramer was right and Deckers has shot up 15% from the time of his call after the company reported a blowout quarter, while Under Armour, which reported a solid quarter as well, lowered guidance, sending shares down 12% today.

The fact that three million homes in the UK are connected through the mobile broadband network proves that this industry is experiencing significant growth. The projection for the industry is that worldwide, this number will shoot up to one billion users within the next three years. With new applications of the internet, the demand for this service is increasing substantially in each quarter. With this growth comes the problem of network congestion.
